The Prairie Ramblers are an American traditional country band that originated in Kentucky. Founded as "The Kentucky Ramblers," they made their first public appearance in 1932. The original line-up included members playing the mandola, tenor banjo, bass, harmonica, and fiddle. In 1933, after relocating to Chicago, the band changed its name to "The Prairie Ramblers." They recorded some risqué novelty songs under a pseudonym and have also recorded under different names. Notable performers with the group include those who replaced original members: one replaced Atchison in 1938, another replaced Holmes in 1942, and a new member joined around 1947 after Crockett's death. A fiddler-guitarist replaced Ray in 1949, and in 1956, Hurt and Taylor brought in an accordionist, which led to the establishment of a new formation that disbanded in 1960.
