The Prefects were a punk band from Birmingham, formed in 1976 by singer and guitarist/drummer brothers Alan and [name not provided] after an advert was placed in the Birmingham Evening Mail. They were recognized as Birmingham's first punk group and were part of [name not provided]'s 'White Riot Tour.' The band toured with [name not provided] and played alongside [name not provided], [name not provided], and many others, recording two sessions for the [name not provided] radio show. The Prefects attained legendary status in the UK, largely due to the fact that no records were released during their active years, and only one posthumous single was released on Rough Trade after their split. However, following a semi-official retrospective titled The Sound of Tomorrow on Rush Release, a retrospective compilation was released in November 2004 by a NYC record label, which received acclaim from various sources, including Rolling Stone. This renewed interest led to the release of a Live in 1978 CD by a British label in 2005. They are best remembered for their seven-second opus "I've Got V.D."
