The Purple Underground is a garage/psych band hailing from Winter Haven, Florida, U.S. Originally known by a different name, they changed their name in early 1967 and continued to perform for a couple of years. After a recording session in March 1967, Jim Carlton left the group to pursue college, resulting in Purple Underground becoming a trio.
