The Radiants were formed in 1960 by artists who began their careers in church, including Wallace Sampson, Elzie Butler, and Jerome Brooks. In 1962, they signed a contract with Chess Records. Initially, the group sang gospel music but later transitioned to secular R&B songs. They recorded primarily for Chess Records from 1962 to 1968, during which time the group experienced several personnel changes. The Radiants ultimately disbanded in 1972.
