The Raincoats are a British post-punk band formed in London, active from 1977 to 1984 and then again from 1993 to the present. The original lineup consisted of Gina Birch on bass, Ana Da Silva on guitar, Vicky Aspinall on second guitar/violin, and Palmolive (Paloma Romero) on drums, who had recently departed from the Slits. After the release of their first album in 1979, Palmolive left the band and was replaced by Ingrid Weiss. The band disbanded in 1984 after releasing three studio albums but reformed in 1994 due to renewed interest, spurred in part by the reissue of their original albums in 1993, which included liner notes by Kurt Cobain and Kim Gordon. Upon their return, new members Anne Wood and Heather Dunn joined, replacing Vicky Aspinall and Ingrid Weiss, to record a new EP and an album titled "Looking in the Shadows."
