The Rainy Daze were a rock band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 1963. They gained recognition for their marijuana-themed single “That Acapulco Gold,” which became a significant regional hit in the 1960s. Their sound was influenced more by bands like the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, and the Who than by the Beatles, and they built their identity on energetic covers while occasionally releasing original material. “That Acapulco Gold” was picked up by Uni Records, reached the Billboard pop charts, and sparked national controversy due to its drug references, which ultimately contributed to the band's dissolution. Songwriters Tim Gilbert and John Carter later achieved further success by writing the No. 1 hit “Incense and Peppermints” for Strawberry Alarm Clock and continued their careers in the music industry.
