The Raymond Family is an Indo-Trinidadian family band that was initially active in Trinidad and Tobago during the early 1960s and 1970s before migrating to Toronto, Canada. The group comprised mother Chan, father Cyril, sons Dick, Richard, and Ren, and daughters Joan, Carol, Marlene, and Cinda. They performed a diverse array of Caribbean and international genres in multiple languages, and their stage shows featured various feats, including Marlene's world record for the lowest limbo performance and Carol's unique barefoot dancing on broken glass. On August 31, 1973, The Raymond Family was granted landed immigration status in Canada, later receiving Canadian citizenship. They performed extensively in Toronto's public schools through the Inner City Angels Organization, conducting workshops on steelpan making, singing and dancing contests, and engaging with audiences during Q&A sessions. Their performances spanned a wide range of venues, including church services, The Canadian National Exhibition, summer resorts, and significant events like the Caribana Parade and the premiere of "The Sound of Music" in Trinidad. The family toured various locations, including Venezuela, Martinique, New York, and many cities across Canada, earning recognition for their musical talents and cultural diversity. In later years, the group evolved into a Tassa Group, featuring about 4 to 5 members, including son-in-law Dave Ramlogan, and occasionally involved Richard's, Carol's, and Cinda's children.
