The Revolutionaries are a Jamaican backing band known for their role as the in-house session band for Bunny 'Striker' Lee's label. The band was built around drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Ranchie McLean, who was later replaced by Robbie Shakespeare. Throughout their history, they featured various Kingston musicians, including Earl 'Wire' Lindo, Radcliffe 'Dougie' Bryan, Ansell Collins, Bobby Kalphat, Lloyd Parks, Uziah 'Sticky' Thompson, Bongo Herman, Stanley Bryan, Bo Peep, Eric 'Bingy Bunny' Lamont, Errol 'Tarzan' Nelson, Skully Simms, Robbie Lyn, and Mikey 'Mao' Chung, among others. Their breakthrough came when they backed The Mighty Diamonds on their classic 1976 album 'Right Time', which introduced fresh Rockers rhythms to the reggae scene. This militant double drumming style defined the music landscape from 1975 to 1978. During this period, a collection of classic dubs was produced by Bunny 'Striker' Lee from sessions recorded at Channel 1. The Revolutionaries also mark the first collaboration of the legendary duo Sly & Robbie.
