The Robins were a vocal group from Los Angeles, originally formed as the Four Bluebirds in 1947. The founding members included Ty Terrell, Billy Richards, Roy Richards, and Bobby Nunn. In 1954, Carl Gardner and Grady Chapman joined the group. The Robins were the predecessors of the Coasters, with Gardner and Nunn leaving in 1957 to form that group. They achieved notable success in the R&B genre, with two Top Ten hits: "If It's So Baby," recorded with the Johnny Otis Band in 1950 for Savoy, and their best-known song, "Smokey Joe's Cafe," which was recorded in 1955 for the SPARK label.
