The Roots is an American Hip-Hop and Neo Soul band that was formed in 1987 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson. Known for their jazzy and eclectic approach to Hip-Hop, the band incorporates live instrumentals into their music. Initially called "The Square Roots," the group later included members Malik B., Leonard "Hub" Hubbard, and Josh Abrams.
