At the end of 1981 and into the following year, the Royal Family reverted to the original duo, concluding their performances with a final gig at Plato's Ballroom, a venue set up by Arthur and Nathan. Arthur then relocated to Newcastle while Mike pursued solo projects and established Legend Agency & the Project. In 1984, Mike Keane revived the group with a new lineup that included a violinist, a drummer, and additional members on vocals, keyboards, and percussion.
