The Royal Jesters were a vocal group from San Antonio, Texas, active from 1958 to 1977. The group's origins trace back to 1956 when Mike Pedraza and Enrique “Henry” Hernández Jr., both students at Sidney Lanier High School, formed The Young Ones. Hernández transitioned from another local group, The Five Angels, to join them. Initially, The Young Ones were backed by bands like the Reno Bops and featured vocalists including Hernández, Lawson, Pedraza, Bobby Cantú, and Charlie Walker. By 1959, Louie Escalante and Tony Arci replaced Cantú and Walker, respectively. Hernández played trumpet while Lawson took up trombone. The lineup changed frequently, with various vocalists joining over the years. In early 1962, a new member replaced Pedraza, and when Lawson left to manage the group, José Perales, who played bass, took his place. Throughout the 1960s, The Royal Jesters produced hits such as “My Angel of Love,” “Your Dreamy Eyes,” “Ask Me to Move a Mountain,” and “Is That Good Enough for You” under different record labels. They eventually established their own labels to record their music.
