Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist and sometimes referred to as Overton Brown, was born on April 18th, 1960, in Kingston, Jamaica. A protégé of King Tubby (Osbourne Ruddock), one of the pioneers of dub music, Scientist emerged on the reggae scene in the mid-1970s with a bold mixing style that often surpassed even King Tubby’s extravagant techniques. He began his career as an engineer at Studio One and later worked at King Tubby's studio in the late 1970s, quickly gaining recognition for his distinctive mixing approach. In 1982, he left King Tubby's studio to become the principal engineer at Channel One Studio, where he was able to utilize a 16-track mixing desk, enhancing his production capabilities. He rose to prominence in the early 1980s, producing numerous albums and working closely with notable artists like Henry "Junjo" Lawes, Linval Thompson, and Jah Thomas. In 1983, he transitioned to Tuff Gong studio. During the early to mid-1980s, Scientist released a series of albums on Greensleeves Records, featuring imaginative themes centered around his fictional battles against Space Invaders, Pac-Men, and Vampires, as well as winning the World Cup. His frequent collaborators, the Roots Radics, provided the music for these projects. Notably, five tracks from his album "The Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires"
