The Selenites Band is a musical collective led by Obi Riddim, specializing in Ethio Jazz, a popular Ethiopian music trend that thrived from the 1950s to the 1970s. This Golden Age saw renowned musicians dominate the scene, and The Selenites Band pays tribute to these masters by performing their major pieces alongside their own creative works inspired by the spirit of that era. Their music blends modal jazz, pentatonic melodies, and free improvisation, enhanced by an original vintage sound that incorporates woodwind instruments, psychedelic guitars reminiscent of the Krautrock movement, and a dynamic drum section that evokes the feel of a Blaxploitation film. The Selenites Band creates a vibrant atmosphere, channeling the energy of the Grand Rift Valley and evoking the magic and rhythm of tropical parties in Addis Ababa clubs from the past.
