The Serpent Power was a folk/psychedelic rock band formed in San Francisco by Meltzer and his wife Tina. The initial lineup included Denny Ellis on lead guitar and David Stenson on bass, both of whom were part of the band's early sound. They expanded to a full rock outfit with the addition of John Payne on organ and Clark Coolidge on drums. After recording their self-titled debut album, Ellis, Stenson, and Payne left the group and were replaced by Bob Cuff on lead guitar and Jim Mocoso on bass. However, the band did not record another album and disbanded in 1968.
