The Shalimars were an American vocal group formed in 1960 in Olympia, WA, and disbanded in 1968. The members included Sandi Ballant, Carolyn Berner, and Dorna Kiepke. Known for their harmonious vocals, they recorded three 45s between 1966 and 1968 for Verve and Veep. Their debut single, "Stop and Take a Look at Yourself," released in 1966 under the name the Shalimars, is celebrated as a Northern Soul classic. The two subsequent 45s for Veep, released in the Spring and Summer of 1968, showcase high-quality songwriting and arranging, reflecting a transitional period in music as it began to embrace funk influences. After their brief career, the group largely faded from public view.
