The Sharpees were a 1960s soul group hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. The original members included Benny Sharp, Herbert Reeves, Horise O'Toole, Stacey Johnson, and Guy Vernon. The group connected with the Chicago label One-Derful through A&R man Mack McKinney and bandleader Benny Sharp. In 1964, the lineup of Horise O'Toole, Herbert Reeves, and Guy Vernon signed with One-Derful Records, leading to the recording of their first single, "Do The 45." Due to health issues, Horise O'Toole left the group and was replaced by Stacey Johnson in 1965. The Sharpees recorded material in both St. Louis and Chicago, with their initial releases "Do The 45" and "Tired Of Being Lonely" gaining traction and allowing them to tour the chitlin circuit, performing at renowned venues such as the Apollo in New York and the Regal in Chicago. The group remained active until the tragic shooting death of Herbert Reeves.
