The Showboys are a two-man rap group hailing from Queens, New York, consisting of Orville “Bugs Can Can” Hall and Phil “Triggaman” Price. In the mid-1980s, they recorded several singles for Profile Records, most notably the track "Drag Rap (Triggerman)," which tells a twisted tale of revenge-seeking gangsters over a richly syncopated beat. The song gained immense popularity in Memphis and New Orleans during the early 1990s and has become a cornerstone of Bounce production, alongside Cameron Paul’s "Brown’s Beat." Countless vocal and instrumental samples from "Drag Rap" have been used in thousands of Bounce songs. Unfortunately, the Showboys faced challenges due to Profile's shady business practices, never receiving the money owed to them for the numerous records sold in the South or the licensing fees for the samples. They were initially unaware of the song's success until a promoter from Memphis contacted them. Despite their negative experience with Profile, the Showboys are honored that their record has played a significant role in shaping the local New Orleans style.
