The Soulful Strings was a musical project led by Chicago soul arranger Richard Evans, active between 1966 and 1971. The project featured several musicians from the Cadet Records house band, including Charles Stepney, Bobby Christian, Billy Wooten, Phil Upchurch, Lennie Druss, and Cleveland Eaton. Known for their unique sound, the Soulful Strings primarily performed covers, blending a sharp, soulful rhythm section with lush string arrangements. Evans notably pushed the strings to the forefront, creating a sound that highlighted the strings in a way typically reserved for bass and rhythm guitar, which contributed to the project's success.
