The Spinanes, an indie rock band, gained attention after signing with Sub Pop in 1992 following two singles with IMP Records. Their debut album, "Manos," released in 1993, reached the number one spot on U.S. college radio charts, bolstered by the single "Noel, Jonah and Me," which received airplay on MTV's 120 Minutes. Despite this success, members Rebecca Gates and Scott Plouf chose to step back from the spotlight, making only a few guest appearances, including contributions to albums by Elliott Smith and Ben Lee, while Plouf also played with Team Dresch and Beck. In 1996, the band began work on their second album, "Strand," but Plouf was recruited by Built to Spill as a drummer, complicating the duo's efforts. After the release of "Strand," Plouf became a full member of Built to Spill. Gates relocated to Chicago, where she connected with new musicians, leading to a new lineup that included bassist Joanna Bolme and drummer Jerry Busher. This group recorded the third and final Spinanes album, "Arches and Aisles," in 1998 with producer John McEntire and guest Sam Prekop. Gates continued to keep the band active until 2000 and has since pursued a solo career. In the same year, the rare collection "Imp Years" was released on Merge Records.
