Their recording career began in 1947 when they recorded 10 songs for a label in Johnson City, Tennessee. They signed a contract with Columbia Records in 1948 and recorded 22 songs with them from 1949 to 1952. In 1953, they switched to Mercury Records for five years. In 1958, The Stanley Brothers started recording for Starday/King Records, producing 15 albums over the next seven years.
