**The Stardusters Bio** The Stardusters were a US vocal group founded in the mid-1930s, initially as a male trio consisting of Glen Galyon, Curt Purnell, and Dick Wylder. They gained recognition in 1936 and were featured on NBC radio's The Vitalis Show in 1939, alongside George Jessel. Later that year and into early 1940, they appeared with Frank Novak and his Music Creators on the Chiclets program, also on NBC. May McKim, who had a background as a singer with an orchestra, joined the group around 1939 after marrying Curt Purnell on August 10, 1936, in Boston. In 1941, the group was hired by Charlie Spivak, who added June Hutton as a featured vocalist, with the trio providing backing vocals. During their time with Spivak's Orchestra, the Stardusters recorded with notable artists such as Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, and Jack Teagarden, all in 1941. They continued to work with other prominent musicians, including Billie Holiday in 1948 and Stan Kenton in 1957. The Stardusters are known for two significant hits, "Brother Bill" and "This is No Laughing Matter," and they provided backup for Evelyn Knight's hit "A Little Bird Told Me," which became part of a landmark court case regarding cover songs.
