**The Stranglers** The Stranglers are an English rock band formed on September 11, 1974, in Guildford, Surrey, UK. Originally known as the Guildford Stranglers, the band initially comprised members including (vocals, guitar), (bass, vocals), Brian Duffy aka (drums), and (keys). After Wärmling left the band in 1975 to return to Sweden, he was replaced by another member. The band's early sound was characterized by Burnel's melodic bass and Greenfield's prominent keyboards, along with the growling vocals and sometimes misanthropic lyrics of both Burnel and Cornwell. In 1977, they briefly performed under the name Mutations, featuring a different vocalist, but this lineup lasted only for a single release. In April 1980, the band had scheduled gigs that proceeded under a different banner after Hugh was arrested on drug charges, featuring guest performers. Cornwell departed in 1990 to pursue a solo career, leading to Paul Roberts taking over as vocalist and John Ellis on guitar. During this period, Roberts performed songs traditionally sung by Burnel. In 1993, Tim Bruce filled in on drums during a tour due to Jet's illness. Ellis left the band in 2000, and the guitar duties were passed to another guitarist. After Roberts left in 2006 over creative disagreements, Warne became the lead vocalist and re-recorded tracks initially recorded by Roberts
