The Sun Ra Arkestra is a U.S. free-jazz ensemble that emerged in the mid-1950s. Initially centered around Sun Ra for almost 40 years, the Arkestra has undergone various incarnations and remains active today under new leadership. The ensemble features a diverse lineup of musicians, including Marshall Allen on alto saxophone and flute, Michael Ray on trumpet and vocals, and Fred Adams on trumpet, among others. Many of the Arkestra's albums have been published under Sun Ra's name, despite being full ensemble recordings. The current lineup includes members who have joined over the years, contributing to the Arkestra's rich musical legacy.
