The Surfaris is an American surf rock band formed in 1962, best known for their hit songs "Wipe Out" and "Surfer Joe." Initially focused on beach and hot-rod themes, they later transitioned to a more folk rock style, achieving a number two hit in Japan with the song "Karen." The original members of the band included James Fuller on lead guitar, Bob Berryhill on guitar, Pat Connolly on bass, and Ron Wilson on drums. Jim Pash also contributed as a saxophonist. Bob Berryhill was part of the original lineup from 1962 to 1966 and returned from 1982 to 1983. In the 1990s, he reformed a faction of the band called simply 'Surfaris,' featuring his wife Gene, a concert violinist, on bass guitar, their younger son Joel as the drummer, and their eldest son Deven on guitar. This lineup has released new material that incorporates surf rock done in a Christian style. James Fuller remained with the band until his passing in 1990, and his son is currently keeping the original band’s legacy alive. Fans can connect with them on Twitter @TheSurfaris62.
