The Tempests were a surf-rock band based in Rochester, NY, active from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. The band eventually changed their name to Casper and the Ghosts after an incident at the New York Night Club (also known as The Maple Leaf New York Nightclub) in Rochester. During a performance, Jim Collins accidentally put too much Murine eye wash in his eyes, causing his face to turn green under the ultraviolet lights. Following this event, the band adopted the name Casper and the Ghosts. The lineup included Dave (Casperson) Kaspersin on vocals and lead guitar, Ken Stewart on vocals and guitar, Jim Herney on background vocals and bass, and Jim Collins on drums.
