**The Temptations Bio** The Temptations are an iconic American vocal group known for their remarkable success with Motown Records during the 1960s and 1970s. Formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, originally under the name The Elgins, they changed their name to The Temptations before signing with Motown in 1962. Renowned for their distinct harmonies, choreography, and flashy wardrobe, the group played a significant role in the evolution of R&B and soul music. They were the first Motown recording act to win a Grammy Award and have released four Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles and fourteen R&B #1 singles throughout their career, establishing themselves as one of the most successful groups in music history. The Temptations' family tree includes several notable members, with Otis Williams being the only current member since the group's inception. Other members have included Elbridge "Al" Bryant, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards, and many others, some of whom have since passed away. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 as performers.
