The Termites were a reggae group that began their career around 1966. Their name originated from a joke when member Vernal found his piano blocks eaten by termites. The group is best known for their hit "Have Mercy Mr. Percy," a plea for leniency from a landlord. They also contributed a song titled "Last Love" to a significant rocksteady compilation, which has been reissued on various newer compilations. Their vocal harmonies blended seamlessly with the slower rocksteady beats, incorporating a touch of doo-wop in their rhythms. The Termites primarily worked with a producer before transitioning to the independent label Dampa. Their last song was "Push It Up," after which the group disbanded. Wentworth Vernal left the music scene and continues to live in Jamaica, while Lloyd Parks has remained active in the music industry.
