The Time is a funk band formed in Minneapolis, featuring lead singer and keyboardist Morris Day, bassist and co-lead vocalist Jerome Benton, keyboardist Jimmy Jam, guitarist Jesse Johnson, and drummer Monte Moir. The members came from two Twin Cities funk units, including "Enterprise." Their first Warner Bros. album, "The Time," was released in 1981 and was primarily created by Morris Day, who wrote and produced the tracks under the pseudonym Jamie Starr. By 1982, with the release of the hit "777-9311" from the album "What Time Is It?", the band had established itself as a prominent act in the live music scene. The original members reunited in 1990 for the album "Pandemonium," released on the Paisley Park label, which included the single "Jerk Out." However, the reunion achieved only moderate success.
