The Tokays were a prominent soul group from Detroit, Michigan, active in the 1960s. Originally named The Legends, the group consisted of members Thelmer Jones, Billy Allen, Herbert Brown, Gene Gates, and Richard Herdon. They recorded a single titled "Baby Baby Baby (You've Got My Hearts Desire)" for Chess singer Tony Clarke. In addition to their recordings, The Tokays provided backing vocals for various Detroit sessions, including Golden World recordings and several JJ Barnes tracks for Ric Tic. The group was known for frequenting Da Da Studios, where they recorded several rehearsal tapes, including an a cappella version of the Appreciations' song "I Can't Hide It."
