The Tokens are a doo-wop to vocal pop group from Brooklyn, New York City, formed in 1955. The original band included various members, but it was not until 1960, when Medress reassembled the group with brothers Phil and Mitch Margo and lead vocalist, that they achieved significant success. By 1967, The Tokens had scored nine charting records, including the number one hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." They wrote, produced, and performed hundreds of recordings, showcasing their versatility. The group signed with Warner Bros, recording two albums, "It's A Happening World" and "Intercourse." However, due to a lack of chart action in 1968, Warner Bros rejected the second album, which The Tokens then released independently.
