The Tornados were an English instrumental group primarily active in the 1960s. They served as the house band for a pioneering record producer. The original and classic line-up included members on guitar, drums, bass, rhythm guitar, and keyboards. Their instrumental material was composed and produced by the producer, who had a keen interest in electronics and sound manipulation, resulting in a futuristic sound. Although their first single, "Love And Fury," was unsuccessful, their follow-up single captured public interest and became a number one hit in both the UK and USA, making them the first British group to top the US Hot Hundred. The quintet enjoyed several more hits in the UK, but the original line-up began to disintegrate when Heinz Burt left for a solo career in 1963, achieving a major UK hit with "Just Like Eddie." By the time the Tornados disbanded following the producer's death in 1967, none of the original members remained. Do not confuse them with the American surf rock band famous for the track "Bustin' Surfboards."
