The Tornados were an English instrumental group primarily active in the 1960s. They served as the house band for a pioneering record producer and featured a classic line-up that included guitar, drums, bass, rhythm guitar, and keyboards. Their instrumental material, composed and produced by the producer, often showcased a futuristic sound influenced by an interest in electronics and sound manipulation. Although their first single, "Love And Fury," did not achieve success, their follow-up single captured the public's imagination and became a number one hit in both the UK and the USA, making them the first British group to top the US Hot Hundred. The band enjoyed several more hits in the UK, but the original line-up began to disintegrate when Heinz Burt left for a solo career in 1963. He later scored a major UK hit with "Just Like Eddie." By the time the Tornados disbanded following the producer's death in 1967, none of the original members remained. Please do not confuse them with the American surf rock band famous for the track "Bustin' Surfboards."
