The Tortians were an American garage punk band formed around 1965 by students from Adamson High School in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. The lineup included James King on rhythm guitar, Johnny Congleton on drums, Carl Lowe on bass, Dick McDonald on lead guitar, Gary McDonald on backup vocals, and John Tincher as the lead vocalist and saxophonist. Notably, most members of the De’Vells also played in The Tortians. The De’Vells featured Joel Reiner on drums, Rick Surratt and Dicky McDonald on lead guitar, John Tincher on lead vocals and sax, Carl Lowe on bass and vocals, and Little David on keyboards and vocals. The band achieved recognition by winning 2nd place in the 1967 Battle of the Bands at the State Fair of Texas, earning a trophy that remains in their possession.
