The Twans were a female soul vocal trio from Miami, Florida, active in the 1960s. They were discovered by Blackpool Mecca DJ Ian Levine during his trips to Miami in 1975 and gained significant popularity at Wigan Casino in 1977. Their sound was characteristic of mid-60s girl groups, which resonated well in large all-night venues. Although the exact year of their release is uncertain, it is estimated to be around 1964 or 1965. The Twans remain a mystery in the music scene, with no known subsequent releases. According to Jeff Lemlich, author of 'Savage Lost,' The Twans were among many Miami girl groups of the 60s, and one of their singers replaced Annette Snell as the lead singer of The Fabulettes. Their record, written by Brad Shapiro and Steve Alaimo, was issued on Henry Stone's Dade label and is considered the most elusive record from that label. Jeff Lemlich has noted that this is the only Miami girl group record he does not own, despite living in Miami all his life. It has been confirmed by Betty Wright that The Twans included her sister and other family members: Jeanette (Wright) Williams, Margaret 'Pepper' Williams, and Leotha Carter.
