The Tymes, originally formed in 1956 as The Latineers, consisted of native Philadelphians Donald Banks, Albert Berry, Norman Burnett, and George Hilliard. After several years of performing on the "chitlin circuit," they faced the risk of becoming just another "hitless" bar band. In 1960, they decided to change their name to the more appealing "Tymes" and brought in lead vocalist George Williams after he won an audition for the position.
