The Utopias were an acappella trio formed in Detroit, USA, consisting of David Lasley, his sister Julie, and their friend Joan Hughes. They crafted a distinctive R&B/blue-eyed soul sound. David took the initiative to record their music and approached several record companies in the Detroit area, successfully securing the release of three 45s. Their debut single, "Welcome, Baby, To My Heart," became a regional hit.
