The Ventures are an American instrumental rock group formed in 1958 by Bob Bogle and Don Wilson in Tacoma, Washington. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 as performers. The band's lineup evolved significantly over the years. Initially, in 1958, they were known as The Versatones, featuring Don Wilson on rhythm guitar and Bob Bogle on lead guitar. By 1959, they expanded to include Earl Herbert on bass guitar and George T. Babbitt, Jr. on drums. In 1960, during the "Walk, Don't Run" sessions, Nokie Edwards joined on bass, and Skip Moore played drums. The lineup continued to change, with Howie Johnson on drums from 1960 to 1961, and a shift in 1961–1962 saw Edwards take over lead guitar while Bogle switched to bass. From 1963 to 1968, Mel Taylor joined on drums, solidifying a lineup that included Wilson, Bogle, and Edwards. This configuration remained stable for several years, with minor changes, including the addition of Gerry McGee on lead guitar in 1968 and later John Durrill on keyboards from 1969 to 1972.
