The Versatiles were formed in 1967 by members Byles, Earl, and Davis. They made their debut with the song "Just Can't Win." In 1968, they participated in the Jamaican Song Festival with "The Time Has Come," although they did not win. Despite this, the group achieved significant success in Jamaica and the UK, releasing records on a label that was launched with "Children Get Ready" and "Someone To Love." Their last song as a trio was "Lu-Lu Bell," recorded at the end of 1969, after which Byles left the group to pursue a solo career. As a duo, The Versatiles released a few recordings on another label. They reunited in 1974 and recorded "Cutting Razor," among other songs. However, the group disbanded permanently in the mid-seventies, with Byles continuing his solo career. The Versatiles should not be confused with a UK group of the same name that performed in the early 70s.
