The Verve were an English rock band formed in Wigan in 1990. The core members included Richard Ashcroft (vocals), Nick McCabe (guitar), Simon Jones (bass), and Peter Salisbury (drums). Simon Tong joined as a second guitarist for the album "Urban Hymns," but he was not part of the group's reformation in 2008. Initially known simply as Verve, the band became The Verve in 1994 after a dispute with the jazz label Verve. Their early material featured guitar-based soundscapes influenced by My Bloody Valentine, but they later evolved into a more conventional alt-rock group. In April 1999, The Verve announced their mutual decision to disband. Eight years later, the original band reconciled their differences, reunited to record a new album, and resumed touring.
