The Vets were formed in 1978 and initially focused on punk rock covers, predominantly songs by the Sex Pistols. They soon transitioned to writing and performing their own material. In 1979, after acquiring a homemade synthesizer, the band's sound evolved to incorporate more synthesizer elements. They gained recognition when John Peel championed their music, featuring their first single "Flies / Contrix" on Radio 1 in late 1979, followed by their second single "World in Action" in June 1980, which he played extensively. The band continued to perform locally for a couple of years and was selected to appear on the BBC television program "Bubbling Under" in 1983, which spotlighted unsigned bands. The Vets disbanded in 1984, with various members going on to collaborate with notable groups and artists such as Everything But The Girl, Felt, Denim, Nik Heywood, Orange Juice, and The Monochrome Set. The lineup consisted of: - Roy Bickenson - Vocals, Guitar - Neil Scott - Guitar, Synthesizer - Richard Crossland - Bass - Steven Bucknail - Drums
