The Volcanoes were an influential band active in the early to mid '80s, known for their strong following despite not becoming a household name. They performed primarily in pubs and clubs around London, including notable venues like the 100 Club, The Marquee, Rock Garden, and Gossips. The band had the opportunity to support iconic acts such as The Damned and Johnny Thunders, and their gigs attracted notable figures like Lemmy from Motörhead and Nico from The Velvet Underground. The band's lineup consisted of lead vocalist Janez Dernulc, also known as 'Johnny Volcano'; lead guitarist Rolph Knudsen, referred to as 'The Qualcast Kid'; bassist James Turnbull, known as 'Evil Lurch'; and drummer Stuart James, who went by 'Sealed Unit'. In 1983, The Volcanoes released their single "Strangers In The Night," a cover of the classic song famously performed by Frank Sinatra. They contributed the track "Wild" to the 1985 punk compilation album Hybrid Gyrations Vol 11 on the Hybrid record label. The band's album "Into The Psyche," released in 1986, featured production involvement from Roman Jugg and Captain Sensible of The Damned.
