**Bio: The Wanderers** The Wanderers were a notable East Coast doo wop group that experienced a decade-long career marked by numerous name changes and label shifts, yet they never achieved significant national success. Originally formed in 1952 as the Barons, the group consisted of Ray Pollard (lead), Frank Joyner (tenor), Robert Yarbrough (baritone), and Sheppard "Shep" Grant (bass). By 1957, they had adopted the name The Wanderers and began releasing singles on the Onyx label. They attempted to diversify their material, including a pop single titled "Thinking of You," which had gained familiarity in New York as the theme song for Brad Phillips' radio show, Battle Royal. The positive audience response to their version offered a glimmer of hope for a smooth pop vocal career. However, following Onyx's absorption by MGM, they transitioned to Orbit Records, which soon changed to Cub Records. Their first release under Cub was "Teenaged Quarrel," but it failed to gain traction, as did subsequent efforts throughout the late 1950s. By 1961, after nearly a decade of performing, the group shifted their style once more, embracing a more commercial R&B sound with their cover of Ed Townsend's 1957 ballad "For Your Love." This single gained some popularity on the national pop charts during the summer of 1961 and resonated with East Coast vocal group enthusiasts.
