The Webs is a musical group hailing from Galveston, a city more famously known for its historical hurricanes than its music scene. The band consists of four members who persevered through numerous tropical storms, including Hurricane Isaac, which devastated their community. Willie Cooper, one of the members, began his musical journey while still in junior high, following the lead of fellow Cedar Terrace resident Joel "DD" Simpson. He joined Frank Minor's show band, transitioning from a guest performer to the lead singer. Despite his young age, Cooper showcased his talent in school talent shows, impressing classmates with his remarkable Sam Cooke impression. His unique falsetto caught the attention of Lionel James and Vincent Hubbard, students from Booker T. Washington Junior High. Along with Cooper's church friend Sanders Antwaine Davis and neighbor Marshall Boxley, they initially named their group the Spiders. However, after discovering an existing doo-wop group with that name, they rebranded themselves as the Webs.
