The Whispers are a soul group formed in 1964 in Watts, California, and based in Los Angeles. The original members included Texan twin brothers along with two other members. In 1973, one member injured his larynx in a driving accident and was replaced. Another member left the group in 1992 due to illness and after his death in 2000, the group vowed never to replace him, continuing to perform as a quartet. Active for over 50 years, The Whispers have released 25 albums and recorded primarily for various labels, including those from 1965 to 2009. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003 and the R&B Music Hall of Fame in 2014. The group has scored 49 hit singles on the R&B charts, with their biggest hits being "And The Beat Goes On" and "Rock Steady," along with several other notable tracks. They have performed tributes and covers of songs by other artists, including "A Song For Donny" and "Hello Stranger." Their last hit single came in 1997 with "My My My," and they have contributed vocals to various releases over the years.
