The Wilers is a Jamaican reggae and ska group that was formed in 1963 as a vocal band known as The Wailin' Wailers by Ermine 'Cherry Smith' Bramwell and others. The Wailers became the backing band for Bob Marley in 1974 after Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the group, although some earlier productions still credited them as The Wailers. Following Bob Marley's death in 1981, the group collaborated with various artists. Some members later released their own records and toured under the name The Wailers, which first appeared in 1989 on an album. For reference, there is also an American garage rock group that shares a similar name.
