Rose St. John and the Wonderettes was a 1960s soul group from Detroit, Michigan, founded in 1963 by songwriter Johnny Robert Thornton and Jack Thomas, and managed by Bob Schwartz. The group originally consisted of members Rose Johnson-Thornton, Lavernah Williams, and Joan Rutledge. Initially named "The Wonderettes" by manager Bob Schwartz, they recorded for local labels before signing with United Artists. Their first hit, "I Feel Strange," reached the Billboard charts, leading to the name change to "Rose St. John and The Wonderettes." The group disbanded following the passing of Johnny Thornton in 1974. Other members included Sandy Hollis and Rose Johnson, who later became known as Rose St. John.
