Thelonious Monk was an American jazz pianist and composer, known for his unique improvisational style and contributions to the genre. He was born on October 10, 1917, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and became one of the most influential figures in jazz history. Monk's compositions, such as "Round Midnight," "Blue Monk," and "Straight, No Chaser," are considered jazz standards. His playing style was characterized by dissonant harmonies and angular melodies. Monk received several accolades throughout his career, including a Grammy Award and a posthumous induction into the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame. He passed away on February 17, 1982.
