Them Are Us Too is a musical project formed by Kennedy and Cash, hailing from Santa Cruz, CA. Kennedy began creating music at a young age, developing a style she describes as "lo-fi noisy bedroom pop." Over time, her sound evolved, and she performed solo as a "one man band," playing both guitar and keys simultaneously. Cash joined the project in 2013 after witnessing one of Kennedy's solo performances and meeting her through mutual acquaintances at her birthday party. Following a spontaneous collaboration at a live show, the duo was officially formed. They have garnered a cult following within independent music circles for their fresh take on the "4AD sound" of dreamy goth-pop anthems. Drawing inspiration from 80’s shoegaze, Them Are Us Too crafts songs that explore themes of tragedy and lost love, appealing to listeners with their nostalgic and innocent sound. Kennedy Ashlyn Wenning's vocals have been likened to those of Kate Bush, Harriet Wheeler, and Elizabeth Fraser, showcasing a remarkable octave range that transitions seamlessly between joy and melancholia. Guitarist Cash Askew creates a rich, layered backdrop with signature reverberation and ambient tones, reminiscent of artists like Robin Guthrie, Ronny Moorings, and Kevin Shields.
