They Might Be Giants is an alternative/indie rock band formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell, who remain the band's only official members. Initially, they used a drum machine before adding a backing band in 1992. The current backing band includes Dan Miller on guitar since 1998, a bassist who has been with the band since 1998 and became a full-time member in 1999, and a drummer who joined in 2002 and became a full-time member in 2004. Former backing band members include various musicians who played different roles over the years, such as drummers, guitarists, and bassists, with some serving in studio capacities only or for limited timeframes. Notable past members include a drummer active from 1993 to 1996, another from 1997 to 2003, and a guitarist from 1996 to 1998, among others.
